Though first concentrated their services on the groceries, Tesco created a big impact in the clothing, furniture, electronic, financial services as well.
The Tesco Stores:
Tesco is been divided into six stores under different names based on the shop size and products that are being sold. The 6 stores are Tesco Extra, Tesco Superstores, Tesco Metro, Tesco Express, One Stop and Tesco Home plus. The Tesco’s Extra store is a largest store stocking products of all range to satisfy customers of different interests. This has a number of stores opened across everywhere some with two floors, the ground floor concentrating mainly on groceries while the first floor includes clothing and entertainment. Tesco Superstore, as from the name it is clear as it is large and a standard supermarket with groceries.
The Tesco Metro sizing medium when compared to Tesco Extra and Tesco Superstore is located mainly in city centres or towns high streets while the Tesco Express can be tagged as a convenience stores in the neighbourhood as it emphasis on daily essentials. Any urgent requirement of the grocery item can be bought at ease; hence these stores are in the city centres and in residential areas for the convenience of people. One Stop is only shop that does not include the name Tesco which is a separate store within their group whose operations are entirely different and is mostly cheaper.

Key features:
Lovefilm (formerly known as screenselect.com) is one of Europe’s leading online DVD rental subscription service with one million members and operates in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. In just over five years they have grown to be UK’s third largest home entertainment subscription service.
Selection of titles:
Lovefilm UK carries over 65,000 unique titles including games. And this is possibly the most comprehensive selection in UK, having everything from top new film releases to television box sets, cinematic classics to documentaries and special interests. They claim to be having virtually every DVD in UK and there are very few DVD rentals that come even close. Perhaps only Blockbuster can claim to compete on that front.
Deign of the site:
LoveFilm’s website has been designed professionally with a number of interactive and editorial features. The website oozes enthusiasm for movies with its well organised, an easily navigable and uncluttered layout decked out in striking black, white and red coloured themes. The site is well designed with a number of browsing options like categories, A-Z, most popular, editor’s choice and Top Rated. This particular section of the website itself is designed in such a way that you would get excited to watch more movies and hence, easily makes a great deal of profit. In other words, they strongly follow every path to make you do what is suggested in their name, “LOVEFiLM”.
Fun with extras in the site:
The rental section is in fact, just one section of the website, it also has all the chats, reviews, ratings, gossips, rants and raves about the wide world of films, that you would ever wish to read and watch. Having all this good entertaining stuff, it makes the site a great source of internet entertainment and keeps you browsing for long times that you would ever imagine. The site also proves to be a very useful guide to show you which DVDs you might enjoy that is based on the taste of your existing set of collections.
Lovefilm allows its members to share the top ten lists, collections and recommendations. A rental watch list can be easily created by clicking on the “Rent Now” button and setting your priority to high, med or low. The rental descriptions page consists of detailed DVD details with user reviews and ratings.
We specially love the official selections of certain celebrities including Matt Damon and Bill Nighy. As LoveFilm becomes more and more powerful, it seems that their celebrity endorsements become ever more impressive. There are stuffs that you can surely get above and beyond what you can expect out of a rental site. While this is not a criteria on which to judge the service, we cannot help, but be slightly impressed.
Lovefilm’s new Video on Demand service is where you can download the entire films to your computer for just £2.99 each. Their very innovative and market leading download’s section is surely worth having a look at. In this section, they have a choice of over 2000 movies and TV episodes for an instant telecast.
Has virtually every DVD in UK:
The wide range of titles alone shows that Lovefilm is more comprehensive than even the largest DVD store in your place. Their collection of 65,000 movies and more also includes the latest range of Blu-ray and HD discs and games. The choice of packages that LoveFilm has is very wide and allows for all type of appetites. By this way, lovefilm makes sure that you get to watch all the movies that you would really regret for missing to see. And if for some reason you manage to find some long forgotten UK-released DVD that miraculously is not in the Lovefilm collection, they will not only source it for you in days, they say they will send it to you first.
Lovefilm’s recommendations service does a great job on drawing on your exiting film tastes, and so be ready to discover a lot of the hidden gems like “Dirty dancing”, “Buffy” and lots more. Lovefilm allows you to do anything and everything cheaply and conveniently that you may never want to leave your home. And a whole world of films awaits on the other side of your letterbox.
Packages and prices:
LoveFilm has two types of packages: Unlimited plans and Light use plans. The unlimited packages have no limits on how many rentals you can be having. They rush you with the next DVD as soon as you send one back. And the latter plan is for occasional viewing and when you reach your limit, you have to wait until the next month for the next DVD. With unlimited rentals, you can choose between 3 great value packages having 1, 2 or 3 DVDs at home at any one time. You get unlimited rentals with 1 disc out at once for £9.78 per month, with 2 discs at a time for £12.72 and with 3 discs at a time for £15.65. The LoveFilm light use plans is for occasional viewing and you get to choose between 2 great value packages with 1 or 2 DVDs at home at any one time. This package has plans from £3.91 to £7.83 per month. When you reach your limit you will have to wait until the next month for the next DVD.
| Plan | Number of DVD at a time | Limit per month | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unlimited | One | Unlimited | £9.78 |
| Unlimited | Two | Unlimited | £12.72 |
| Unlimited | Three | Unlimited | £15.65 |
| Light use | Two | Four | £7.82 |
| Light use | One | Three | £5.87 |
| Light use | One | Two | £3.91 |
High demand:
If you want us to criticise LoveFilm for anything, then it would be on its popularity which has grown rapidly, that occasionally there will not be enough DVDs to meet the rocketing demand from the new members that causes occasional delays. And even this problem was only a one of the past with LoveFilm stockpiling the hottest titles well in advance of demand. And in case, the DVD that you wish to see is currently available, then LoveFilm will send you the first copy that is returned. If you are looking for a movie that is most obscure and hard to get hold of, then, LoveFilm will bring smiles on to your faces with its extensive range of collections. We have found that many of the DVD rental sites are using LoveFilm to run their services while keeping their own name in the front end interface in order to maintain the bran continuity. We advise you to cut out the middleman and go of straight to the specialists.
Heavier users should be aware that LoveFilm operates a fair use policy where the heaviest of renters will lose priority to popular titles during periods of high demand. There does seem to be a rather hazy interpretation of what a heavy user is and even some moderate users claim to have fallen foul of the policy.
A leader in Game collections too:
The website does not just have the largest selections of DVDs in UK, they also have one of the greatest collection of Games selections. And by just having a look at the way it is presented and organised, we can certainly say for sure that they have passion for games. The site not only delivers games at your doorstep for your pleasure, it also makes you try a bigger and wider selection of bigger and better collection of gaming consoles. LoveFilm’s games database is always kept up to date with the latest game releases and so, you will never need to be kept in dark again when that comes out. So, you will never have to just smile and nod when your friends are raving over the latest game and you can say with wit that “Yeah! I have played it”. With the site’s coming soon section, you get to have an edge on getting the next biggest edition first. They also keep a constant track on what the people rent or buy the most. One of the best things about the site is the huge variety and selections they have in offer with access to over 4000 different console games and they let you select any time of the day. Their impressive set of games selection includes more than 2800 games for PS3, PSP, Xbox, Wii and DS consoles.
No late fees for ever:
There are absolutely no late fees, so hold onto each DVD as long as you like and there is no cancellation fees either. Since LoveFilm does not hold you to a minimum term contract and so you can enjoy your free trial in complete confidence.
Turnaround time and customer service:
LoveFilm’s send and receive turnaround speed is usually very quick as the DVDs are sent first class, with a turnaround expected every two to three days. Their DVDs are sent in very thin plastic sleeves with a prepaid returnable envelop included. Their returnable envelops can fit up to four discs at a time. The website has a very comprehensive membership area where you can edit your watchlist, personal details, website preferences and membership status too.
Their good works is carried though their customer service too, which is simply second to none.
Secure:
Lovefilm site is very secure as your details like password, personal details and card data are encrypted using the very latest technology and their servers are extremely secure.
Verdict:
Lovefilm offer the most complete DVD and games rental experience, combining a great service with lots of information about the films you are renting as well as regular newsletters to let you know of what’s going on in the world of film. If you love films, we simply do not know what you are waiting for and even if you do not love films, sign up will LoveFilm and you will start loving films.

The home page of the ASDA electrical section has been kept simple and neat. You are provided with direct links to top rated products, mega deals and featured products too. The categorisation has been done in a clever and logical manner and they include; Mega Deals, TV and DVD, Gaming, Computing, Large Appliances, Small Appliances, Personal Care, Audio and HiFi, Phones, SatNav and Cameras & Telescopic.
TVs and DVDs:
TVs and DVDs section can be one of the most confusing sections in electronics with so much of categories line LCD TVs, LED TVs, Plasma TVs, Home Cinema, DVD, Blurays, Digital Receivers and Recorders, their combos and the accessories too. In the main page of the TVs and DVDs section, ASDA has made simple classification of TVs, DVD & Blu-ray, Digital Receivers and Recorders, Home Cinema and Accessories. In order to narrow your searches, the options available are price and brand. It is very disappointing that ASDA has not made the categorisations explicitly; however, you can make your specific searches in the narrow your search section. You can narrow your search by brand, with or without built-in DVD player, by TV type, Price and screen size. The price of the TVs, DVDs, Blu ray players and their accessories range from under £25 to £2000. In the following table, we have simplified the details for you.
| Gadget | Categories | Brands Available | Price Range | Special Narrow search options |
| Television | LCD, Plasma and LED | Sanyo, Samsung, Toshiba, Luxor , Sharp, LG, Disney, Hannspree, Videocon and Sony | £100 to £700+ | With built-in DVD player, By screen size |
| DVD and Blu-ray | DVD player and Bluray Player | LG, Philips, ASDA, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and Onn | Under £25 to £100+ | NA |
| Digital Receivers and Recorders | NA | Goodmans, One for All, Philex, Philips, Sagem, SLX and Toshiba | Under £25 to £100+ | NA |
| Home Cinema | NA | Sony and Philips Electronics | Under £150 to £250+ | NA |
| Accessories | Cables, Sockets, Stands, Brackets, Aerials and Remote Controls | ASDA, SLX, Troy , S and C Products, Philex, EcoPower, One for All, Sky, Thor, UEI, Modus and VFM | Under £25 to £100+ | NA |
Gaming:
In the gaming section of ASDA Electricals, the main page has bundles & offers and special offers on the famous consoles like Wii, Wii Fitness, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, DSi & DS Lite and PSP. The categories that ASDA offers to simplify your search include DSi and DS Lite, Wii, Xbox 360, Wii Fitness, PlayStation 3, PSP and Gaming Bundles and offers. In the Gaming Bundles and Offers section, you will find a few offers that include the bundle offers; looking for a great bundle, this is just the right section to look for. The other sections have the regular list of the consoles and their accessories. The brands offered by ASDA Direct include Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Blue Ocean , Xbox 360, Mad Catz, Njoy and VFM.
Computing:
Computing will be one of the mot clicked sections of the ASDA Direct electrical. The main page of computing has neatly categorised the sections into Laptop & Broadband, Peripherals & software, printers & scanners and blank media. In the laptops and broadband section you will be able to find broadband dongles, e readers, and laptops. But it was disappointing to find that there was no option for to be able to sor t any of them. You will be able to narrow your search only by brand and price. We honestly feel the laptops itself has so much of categories like nettop, tablet, mini laptops and laptops, and so they deserve a completely separate section. The laptops offered also are not of the well known brands; their brands include England , Notino, Elonex, and just 1 Samsung netbook. The collection is insufficient.
Peripherals and Software:
In the peripherals and software section you will be able to find any and every kind of peripheral for your PC. You will be able to narrow your search by brand and price. Here again, there is no way by which you will be able to choose the peripheral you are looking for straight away. This section includes peripherals like multimedia speakers, mouse, memory card, CD packs, USB cable, VGA cables, webcam, USB sticks, mouse pad and lots more. The Printers and Scanner section is quite good with devices from most of the well known brands of printers and scanners like HP, Lexmark, Epson, ASDA and Canon. In this section you will also be able to find printer cartridges. In the black media section, you will just find the storage medias like CDs, DVDs and UB drives for good deals.
Large Appliances:
The large appliances section has all the large appliances of household like washing machines, tumble dryers, cookers, fridge freezers, dish washers, fridges, washer dryers, freezers, cooker hoods and accessories. The main page of this section has nothing but a quick link to each of these sections. To narrow your searches, you can do so by category, brand, energy efficiency class, price and colour. Washing machines are a big area and it is disappointing that ASDA has not provided an option to narrow by other washing machine categories like front loading, free standing and top loading. To make things simple, we have listed the appliances available in the category and options available in a table format.

The brands offered by ASDA Direct include Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Blue Ocean, Xbox 360, Mad Catz, Njoy and VFM.
But it was disappointing to find that there was no option for to be able to sort any of them. You will be able to narrow your search only by brand and price. We honestly feel the laptops itself has so much of categories like nettop, tablet, mini laptops and laptops, and so they deserve a completely separate section. The laptops offered also are not of the well known brands; their brands include England, Notino, Elonex, and just 1 Samsung netbook. The collection is insufficient.
Peripherals and Software:
In the peripherals and software section in ASDA you will be able to find any and every kind of peripheral for your PC.
The ASDA large appliances section has all the large appliances of household like washing machines, tumble dryers, cookers, fridge freezers, dish washers, fridges, washer dryers, freezers, cooker hoods and accessories.
Small appliances:
As in the case of the large appliances section, the small appliances section too has all the small appliances that you can ever think of. Personal Care:
The personal care section has stuff like Hair Care, Men’s shavers, Health and Beauty, Women’s Hair removal and Oral Care. In the hair care section, the categories includes hair styling, clippers & trimmers and hair dryers; and this section has all the accessories that are essential for hair care. The Men’s shaver section includes the hair trimmers and men’s shavers. Our only concern in this section is that, we feel that there are no enough choices included in any of these sections. ASDA has to focus and improve this section.
Audio and Hi-fi:
Audio and Hifi section of the ASDA Electricals includes audio accessories, Blank Media, HiFi and Docking stations, MP3 and MP4 players, CD Players and Radios and Apple shop. In the special Apple Shop section you will find everything that is apple. We are quite happy with this section as it has a good collection of gadgets in each of the categories and a good mix of brands too.
Phones:
The Phones section has been very well designed. In the main page, the four main categories of PayG, Landline telephones, Laptops and Broadband and Accessories have been listed. ASDA itself has its very own network which is UK’s lowest Pay as you Go flat rate network. The page also has a list of great offers and list of the popular phone brands too. In the mobile phones section you will find phones of the big brands including LG, Samsung, Nokia, Sony, Vodafone, Alcatel and Blackberry. You will also be able to narrow your search by brand, by network, by model, by top feature and by price. But when it comes to landline phones, you get to narrow only by brand and price range. In the phone accessories section you will find headsets, memory cards, cases, car accessories and sim packs. As far as mobile broadband is concerned, you do not have much option; there are just four options from Three, O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone.
Sat Nav:
The Sat Nav does not have many options for you. There as just six of them from brands of K4, MyGuide, NavMan and TomTom.
